If you’d told me a month ago that id be in Cancun Mexico two weeks later, wearing sombreros and drinking margaritas whilest jetting along some of the most beautiful waters I have ever seen by boat, I would have laughed in your face. Because even to me that sounds crazy.
However once again my life took and unexpected turn and I ended up half way across the world holidaying with some incredible friends who I hadn’t seen in years.
And it most definitely won’t be a holiday I will soon forget. I learnt before leaving that almost all the resorts in Mexico are all inclusive, and so for the first time I experienced an all inclusive resort, and boy are those dangerous.
The resort we stayed at was called Breathless Resprt and Spa, which we learnt was a fairly new resort, and a good place for young people to enjoy a trip more on the party side. We had 4 restaurants in our hotel, as well as 5 bars, 3 pools, and amazing beachfront views. I was lucky in scoring a room with a pool at my doorstep, so I could literally swim up to my door.
We only went for the weekend, so had 2 days to do everything we wanted to do. To me, a person who generally stays in one place for Atleast a week to a month, 2 days was no where near enough time. However the 2 days we had we used well, spending the first day exploring and shopping in Playa Del Carmen, feasting on delicious Mexican food and drinking a mixture of high grade tequila and cocktails from small local street bars.
The second day however was the day that made thrip as spectacular as it was, and is by far one of the best days I can remember. Ever.
We spent the day on an amazing 60 foot jet boat, which we boarded at 10am and had for the entire day. We hopped from snorkel spot to snorkel spot, swimming in the clearest of waters and lunching on some of the best seafood I have ever eaten. I came away with new recipes (which I had begged the captain for) a bit of a sunburn, and a camera and head full of amazing memories that I won’t soon forget.
After arriving back to the port we made our way to have an incredible Japanese dinner, where I definitely consumed atleast 2 bottles of sake to myself, and with food and alcohol in our bellies we dragged our feet back to the hotel and I passed out the moment my head hit the pillow.
With sadness we caught our plane back to Dallas early the next morning, and although the holiday was a short one I couldn’t have asked for better people to take my first trip to Mexico with or a better way to do it. It definitely will not be my last Mexico adventure.
