Well I have officially found my new favourite place !
I have been working on boats for the last 5 years all across Europe, Australia and Thailand. I have spent the last 4 summers in Greece yet this was the first time I made the journey to the incredible island of Mykonos.
I had this idea before going to Mykonos that it was a small island completely covered in white houses. Just like the pictures. I soon realised my mistake when I took my first ATV ride around the island, made up of tiny twisting roads, rugged landscape strewn with rocks and boulders and a very few trees, giving it a very desolate feeling in contrast to the beauty and sophistication of the main town, Chora.
I spent 3 weeks in Mykonos this summer and wanted to share with you my favourite places and tips of the island !
Scorpios was by far my favourite place on the island. Anyone you ask will tell you the same as it has a captivating magic about it that you have to experience to understand. Perched on a cliff face it it hosts arguably the best parties on the island every Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. It is filled with people dressed up like nowhere I have ever been, beautiful souls everywhere with such an incredible vibe. It also has an insane restaurant with the best food in Mykonos so get down early to watch the sunset, enjoy an insane dinner and continue the party listening to amazing house music and dancing until the early hours of the morning under the palm trees and fairy lights
If you’re looking for a place with good music, lots of people, and luxury beach club vibes then Nammos is the place to be. Hosting an amazing restaurant (I highly reccomend the tempura shrimp burger) and it’s own luxury village for high end shopping it is an experience unlike anything else you will find in Mykonos. It is a little expensive at about €150 for the beds (€5000 for cabanas) for the day but there are much more affordable sun beds right next to the Nammos beach club beds for €30.
For you girls there’s also some shopping to be done for beautiful lace kimonos, and sheer gold dresses and pants for just a fraction of the price of what you will find in town (€15-€40) sold in the centre of the beach just next to the Nammos beach club
Alemagou is a smaller beach club in a more remote part of the island with a seafood menu to die for. Sip cocktails by day on the picturesque little beach and keep and ear out for the parties they host as they are incredible, nothing beats partying just meters off the sand!
Mykonos main town, Chora, is the heart of the island and filled with a labrynth if tiny white streets, beautiful luxury shopping and countless bars and clubs that make walking the streets in high season a long and interesting process. You could spend hours exploring the beautiful and unique city constantly discovering beautiful alleys and doorways and often finding yourself going round in circles and ending up in a part completely different to where you thought you were headed. There are so many secret bars, clubs and restaurants that sometimes it’s fun just to wonder around and see where you end up.
The best sunset spot
Mykonos 180 sunset bar was by far my favourite sunset spot of the trip. Sitting high above Mykonos town it shows amazing views of the most densely populated part of Mykonos and has incredible photo spots for the best instagram photos. The cocktails here were absolutely amazing to be enjoyed whilst lounging on the numerous beanbags strewn across the venue.
If you happen to have ATVs or scooters during your Mykonos stay then I highly recommend visiting Armenistis Lighthouse. It is a beautiful drive to get there and is in a very remote corner of the island. The lighthouse itself is just like all the building in Mykonos, white and blue, but sits at the end of a windy road and is a picture of beauty, framed by the Aegean Sea, as you near it. The view overlooking the water is breathtaking and really makes you appreciate how vast the world is, the wind so strong that if you lean into it it pushes you upright.
Agios Sostis beach
If you’re like me and love to spend time on a beach without music, copious amounts of people, and day clubs, then this is one of the only place in Mykonos where you will get it. Sitting one beach across from Principote beach club it is one of the only beaches on the island which doesn’t have a beach club and you can just take a towel, a book, and enjoy this beautiful sandy beach.
Of all the clubs and bars in Mykonos town I always end up at Astra. Most people flock here late at night after finishing up at scorpios or the other early night venues and stay here until nights end. It’s a small venue but had incredible house music, the ceiling speckled with lights and one of the only venues that doesn’t have a cover charge.
Santa marina is a beautiful beach front hotel consisting of luxury villas, incredible restaurants, and a beautiful beach with one of a kind cabanas aligns jetty wall. It is one of the few places in Mykonos that is abundant in beautiful trees and flowers surrounding the villas and property. The beach front restaurant, Buddha bar beach, has a delicious Japanese fusion menu and some of the best fish I’ve ever had. There’s also a jetty off the beach below so if you want to hire a boat for the day it’s the perfect lunchtime stop off
The iconicly white villas speckled throughout Mykonos island is one of the main reason the island is so famous. You literally cant take a bad photo so visiting some of the incredible villas owned and rented by friends I met over there was one of my favourite parts of the trip! A lot of these villas are available on airbnb so have added for the ones that are I have added their names in the captions!
fun fact : House owners actually get a fine if they do not paint their houses white !
